Arts for Healing
Sharp HealthCare recognizes that providing great care goes beyond traditional medical treatments to offer personalized services for every patient. Arts for Healing uses art, music and writing to help patients through a challenging time in their life, providing creative outlets that enhance their ability to heal.
The Arts for Healing program is unique to Sharp—no other hospital in San Diego brings art and music to patients' bedsides using licensed therapists.
The program has grown each year since its inception in 2007 and, to date, more than 83,000 patients and their families have benefited from activities and specialized therapies facilitated by volunteers, therapists and staff.
Since launching Arts for Healing at Sharp Memorial Hospital, Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women & Newborns, Sharp Mesa Vista Hospital and Sharp McDonald Center in 2008:
Designed with the latest clinical research in mind, Arts for Healing programs help improve the spiritual and emotional health of patients who struggle with pain, anxiety, chronic illness and mental health issues. The introduction of art, music and writing into the healing process minimizes stress levels, elevates spirits and increases comfort—often contributing to faster recovery.
"The art therapist was terrific. Every time my blood pressure was taken after an art session, it was at its lowest. This program made my month long stay in the hospital so much more bearable," said one recent patient.
Free to patients and funded entirely by philanthropy, the Arts for Healing program has a dramatic impact on Sharp and the people of our community.
In 2016, nearly $106,331 was distributed by Sharp HealthCare Foundation to support art and music therapy for patients and their families through Arts for Healing.
Make a gift to support Arts for Healing and you will help bring the healing power of art and music to more patients and their families.
