Dee Marie Ammon
Vice ChairDee Marie Ammon

Dee Marie Ammon's extensive volunteer work has benefited San Diego organizations including Friends of Vista Hill and Nice Guys, a charity organization her husband founded. She has also served on multiple committees at various organizations over the years, including the Grossmont Hospital Foundation Gala committee. Dee Marie was born in Guam and received her education at the university there. She and her husband, Jon, have four children and live in Alpine.

Noori Barka, PhD.Dee Marie Ammon

Dr. Barka attended University Catholic of Luvain, Belgium, and has a PhD in Immunology.  Dr. Barka is an East County resident and President of Calbiotech, Inc. - a worldwide leader in immunoassay development and manufacturing.  Dr. Barka's hobbies include traveling around the world and meeting people.  His civic interests include building a better community through education.  Dr. Barka resides in El Cajon with his wife Evelyn who is a hospital volunteer.  They have three children.

Joyce ButlerJoyce Butler

Joyce Butler is a long-time supporter of Sharp Grossmont Hospital, both as a donor and a previous board member. She also currently serves as a member of ARCS/Liaison for SDSU, SOY Dinner, PEO, Wednesday Club Jrs and Thursday Club, Chairman of T.C. Rummage Sale, San Diego Zoo, Young Americans, USO Boys Club of El Cajon, Past Women of Dedication, and member of Doris Howell. A graduate of San Diego State University and University of Vienna, Joyce has lived in La Mesa for 45 years and has two children and 4 grandchildren.

John Fonseca

John Carlos Fonseca was born in Mexico City, Mexico. He is the owner and CEO of the Fonseca Design Shop that has operated in La Mesa since 2002. Mr. Fonseca graduated from UCLA with a degree in International Economics-emphasis in Latin America. Mr. Fonseca currently serves as the President of the La Mesa Parks and Recreation Foundation, as well as being an Advisor to the San Diego Sporting Soccer Club (non-profit) and member of the Grossmont Hospital Foundation Golf Committee in 2014 and 2015. His Hobbies include soccer, tennis, golf and surfing. Mr. Fonseca believes in the importance of instilling a sense of community involvement, civic responsibility and stewardship in his two sons. Participating on the Board of Governors would be a fitting way to achieve this while, at the same time, giving back to his community. He lives in La Mesa.

Freddy Garmo, JDFreddy Garmo

Freddy Garmo has both a law degree and real estate broker's license. He came to the Foundation because of his interest in helping the community and the underprivileged. Freddy was born in Iraq and his parents brought their family of 12 children to the United States in 1976, settling in Detroit. He received his law degree from the University of Detroit School of Law and bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan. After graduating, Freddy moved to San Diego and began practicing law full time in 1995. He and his wife have four children and live in El Cajon. 

Ann GoldbergAnn Goldberg

Ann Goldberg serves as Board Chair for the Grossmont Hospital Foundation Board of Governors and previously served as co-chair and secretary for the Board. Her other volunteer activities include two years as chair of the Del Cerro Unit of Rady Children's Hospital Auxiliary. Ann is a University of Arizona graduate with a bachelor's degree in political science and public administration and the wife of Sharp Grossmont Hospital-affiliated cardiologist Dr. Ron Goldberg. 

Kristy GreggKristy Gregg

Kristy Gregg is a third generation native San Diegan who learned at an early age that she could be an active participant in her community through her professional career and as a volunteer. Being part of developing the Community Dev/Affairs Departments at San Diego National Bank and then U.S. Bank, made the ideal situation for her to combine her passion for making a difference. She currently serves on the boards of The Children's Initiative, Just in Time for Foster Youth, SD Nice Guys and Star Pal. Prior to retirement in 2014, she had served on more than a dozen boards and host of committees over a 30-year span. Kristy lives in La Mesa with her husband, Steve and enjoys gardening, hiking and golfing. Together they have five children and three grandchildren.

Albert E. Johnstone

Albert E. Johnstone attended San Diego Community College and Rutgers University.  Mr. Johnstone is an East County resident, now retired from the fields of Engineering and Human Resources where he ran the Equal Employment Opportunity / Affirmative Action and Americans with Disabilities for 16 years.  Mr. Johnstone's hobbies include tennis, golf, bridge, ballroom and western dancing, inventing and science.  Mr. Johnstone resides in La Mesa with his wife Janet.  They have three children and five grandchildren. 

Howard LevensonHoward Levenson

Howard B. Levenson is a native Californian and a resident of the San Diego area for over 70 years.  In 1976 he became the Chairman and Chief Executive officer of Western Financial Corporation. Howard has served as a member of the Board of Directors for several publicly held companies and is a recognized expert within the independent banking industry.  Most recently, Mr. Levenson was the organizer, founding Director and Chairman of Vibra Bank in Chula Vista. He is a past Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Grossmont Hospital Foundation and a past President of the University Club in San Diego. The Levenson’s have one son, Richard S. Levenson (a past director of the Grossmont Hospital Foundation), one daughter, Mindy Fullerton and five grandsons. Howard is retired and lives in El Cajon and Julian with his wife, Virginia. 

Alex MatukAlejandro (Alex) Matuk
Treasurer

Alex Matuk is the principal of the Law Offices of Alejandro Matuk as well as a principal at Strazzeri Mancini LLP. Alex is a member of numerous organizations, including the State Bar of California, the San Diego County Bar Association and the La Raza Lawyers Association of San Diego. He graduated from California State University Fullerton and earned his juris doctorate at the University of Michigan. He and his wife, Jill, live in La Mesa. 

Elizabeth Morgante, VP, CDOElizabeth Morgante

Elizabeth Morgante has served as the executive director for Grossmont Hospital Foundation since 1994. She is a certified fundraising professional and the former president of the San Diego Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. Beth also serves on the board of the La Mesa Lions Club and is active in the La Mesa Boy Scouts and various community sports leagues. 
 

Scott Musicant, MDScott Musicant MD

Dr. Musicant is a Sharp-affiliated Vascular Surgeon at Grossmont Hospital.  For the past six years, his leadership role of fundraising for the Grossmont Hospital Foundation’s Golf Tournament has raised more than $2.2 million dollars. Dr. Musicant has also personally supported the Foundation as Golf Tournament underwriting sponsor and a Gala Notable Sponsor. Dr. Musicant graduated with his Medical Degree from UCLA in 1998. Prior to that, he attended Grossmont College and Mills College earning a BA in 1990. Dr. Musicant’s hobbies include biking and skiing. He and his wife Carrie, along with their two sons, live in La Mesa.

Fred Robinson

Fred Robinson is a graduate of San Diego State University, and worked as a Financial Consultant with Merrill Lynch Wealth Management.  He has also served as a Fire-Life Safety Inspector for large commercial buildings, and has negotiated inspection programs for many San Diego facilities including those of Sharp HealthCare.  Mr. Robinson enjoys pursuing many entrepreneurial and business opportunities, and is very involved in community activities.  He and his wife, Lisa, live in La Mesa and have three children.

Huda SalemHuda Salem

Huda Salem and her husband Victor, a past Foundation board member, own the Comfort Inn Hotel in Old Town. Huda was born in Baghdad and is active in the Chaldean community, receiving the Leadership Award from local Chaldean-American charity Ladies of Hope. She extends her spirit of service to the East County community through her work with the Grossmont Hospital Foundation. Huda and her husband have three children and live in La Mesa.
 

Peter ShustermanPeter Shusterman

Peter I.M. Shusterman lived overseas throughout his childhood. At the age of seventeen he moved to Utah to study Finance at the University of Utah. He obtained his Masters in Business Administration with an emphasis in International Finance from Temple University. He went on to study law at California Western School of Law and Western State School of Law in San Diego. Mr. Shusterman has been the owner of Shusterman Financial Service, Family Wealth Manager for 31 years. Mr. Shusterman is currently involved in the community by being a member of the Honorary Deputy Sheriff’s Association, Grossmont Hospital Foundation's Finance Committee, and Rancho Bernardo Sunrise Rotary. Previously, he has served on the San Ysidro Health Center Capital Campaign Board, San Diego American Diabetes Association and the Boy Scouts of America LDS Chapter among others. Growing up in third world communities, Mr. Shusterman recognizes the necessity of connecting health care professionals with their community.  Peter and his wife, Karen, have two daughters. 
 

Lew SilverbergLew Silverberg
Chair

Lewis "Lew" Silverberg practiced law in San Diego from 1959 to 1989 with the firm Fredman, Silverberg and Lewis, representing business and real estate interests with an emphasis on planning. He has acted in officer or director capacities for several companies, including vice president and member of the Board of Trustees of the Zoological Society of San Diego. Lew received his law degree from UCLA Law School and his BA in Economics from Pomona College. He and his wife, Alice, live in El Cajon.

John SnyderJohn Snyder

John Snyder is the vice president and general manager of EDCO Disposal, a family-owned and operated waste collection and recycling company. John has worked for EDCO for more than 20 years, serving in his current role for nearly 10. He is also the current president of California Refuse Recycling Council, vice president of the National City Chamber of Commerce, commissioner of the La Mesa Sustainability Commission and a board member of the San Diego County Disposal Association. John is the past president of the Imperial Beach Boys and Girls Club and a past board member of the Coronado and East County Chambers of Commerce. John and his wife, Yvette, live in La Mesa and have two small children, John II and Vivienne.

Dr. Philip SzoldPhilip Szold, MD
Secretary

Dr. Philip "Flip" Szold is a pediatrician and 34-year member of the Sharp Grossmont Hospital Medical staff. He previously served on the hospital corporate board for nine years, and is a member of the board of the East County Boys & Girls Club. Dr. Szold was awarded the Grossmont Healthcare District's Healthcare Hero award in 2011. He pays special attention and research to water floridation and childhood obesity in his practice. Dr. Szold received his degrees from Dartmouth and Bradley University. He and his wife, Cindy, have four children.
