Heart and Vascular Center at Sharp Grossmont Hospital

Sharp Grossmont Hospital Heart and Vascular Center
Campaign co-chairs Sandy and Ed Burr stand with project managers Todd Foos and Dave Suydam in front of the Heart and Vascular Center construction site. The Burrs generously pledged $1 million to support the project, which will bring leading-edge cardiac and vascular care to the East County community.

Sharp Grossmont Hospital operates one of the busiest cardiac catheterization labs in the state of California, and the region's aging population and county-wide bed shortage continue to grow. The Heart and Vascular Center is strategically placed adjacent to the hospital's current operating department and cath labs for optimum efficiency and patient support.

At a total cost of $115 million, this 71,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility has been developed on three floors to include three cardiac catheterization labs, multipurpose operating rooms and expanded pharmacy and lab areas. When fully functional, the center will offer a variety of diagnostic tests, treatments, services and surgeries to benefit patients with congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease and atrial fibrillation (abnormal heart rhythm).

The Heart and Vascular Center will create one of San Diego's most advanced clinical environments, providing leading-edge care with lifesaving answers. It will promote cross-disciplinary approaches to benefit patient health and provide:

  • A highly functional technology platform for diagnostics and interventions

  • A flexible surgery environment for both closed and open procedures

  • Enhanced use of robotic technology translating to quicker patient recovery times

  • Clinical lab and pharmacy space to accomodate future growth

Grossmont Hospital Foundation committed to raising $15 million to equip the new Heart and Vascular Center, and to date, more than $13 million has been secured.
