Inspired Giving: The Caster Family Story
The Caster Family continues to make an impact on Sharp HealthCare's largest workforce — our nurses. Through a $50,000 grant, the Caster family is supporting the Center of Nursing Excellence at Sharp.
The Caster family owns A-1 Self Storage and has donated more than $470,000 toward nursing education across Sharp HealthCare since 2005. This grant will support scholarships for Sharp nurses pursuing their BSN, MSN and doctoral degrees.
“Both Barbara and I, along with our very large family, believe in a high-quality education for Sharp nurses,” said Terrence Caster, chairman and founder of A-1 Self Storage. “At A-1 Self Storage, our employees and our great customers help us act upon our belief. They make our gift to Sharp nurses’ education possible.”
Dan Gross, executive vice president of hospital operations at Sharp HealthCare, agrees about the importance of nursing. “Nurses are at the heart of the health care delivery system. It is essential for us to invest in nurses and nursing, and philanthropy plays a critical role in ensuring that their education and advancement are possible,” he said. “We have been very fortunate to have benefactors, such as the Caster family, who have made this dream a reality.”
In recognition of the critical role of nursing in patient-centered care, the Center of Nursing Excellence was created to advance the nursing profession through caring, innovation and leadership. The center will give nursing professionals access to unprecedented opportunities for collaboration, community involvement and lifelong learning. By supporting Sharp’s nurses in providing the best possible care for patients and their families, the center is the latest example of how Sharp is transforming the health care experience.
