Inspired Giving: The Randy Lievan Story
The nursing team on 5 East at Sharp Chula Vista.
On his way home from Detroit, Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center board member Randy Lievan was looking forward to a relaxing San Diego day. Unfortunately, a heart attack caused a detour to Sharp Chula Vista.
Meeting the challenge to be the best place to receive care, the nurses of 5 East went above and beyond to help him feel at home.
“Your nursing staff on 5 East was simply wonderful,” said Lievan. “They not only inquired on a regular basis as to my comfort, but took all the necessary steps to improve it. Like most heart patients, I was scared, and the nurses did everything possible to relieve the stress of the situation.”
Grateful for his treatment, Randy generously donated $20,000 to Sharp HealthCare Foundation in honor of the nurses of 5 East for making the difference in his stay.
“As a board member, I am familiar with patient satisfaction scores taken by organizations like Press Ganey and Sharp’s initiative to be the best place to receive care. After my stay, I can share that Press Ganey is one thing ... but personal experience is another,” said Lievan. “I will be eternally thankful.”
