Inspired Giving: The Jim Reopelle Story
At age 49, Jim Reopelle was rushed to one of Sharp's emergency departments suffering from an episode of extremely rapid heartbeats. He was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, a life-threatening cardiac arrhythmia that greatly increases the risk of dangerous blood clots and strokes.
Jim is still grateful for the state-of-the-art treatment he received at Sharp Memorial Hospital for his condition.
“I owe my life to the skilled and caring staff at Sharp," he says.
Jim was so thankful for the care he received from his nurse, Remalyn Matabang, that he decided to make a Guardian Angel gift in her honor.
The Guardian Angel Program gives grateful patients and their loved ones the opportunity to support Sharp HealthCare Foundation while paying tribute to caregivers who made a difference during the patients’ visit or stay. Remalyn received a card informing her of the thoughtful gift and a custom-crafted Guardian Angel pin to proudly wear on her white coat or hospital uniform. To further show his gratitude, Jim joined Sharp HealthCare Foundation's Legacy Circle by making a gift from his estate that will assist the foundation's life-saving mission for generations to come. He also volunteers his time and expertise as a member of Sharp HealthCare Foundation's board of directors.
