Sharp Mary Birch Expansion
Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women & Newborns is undertaking an extensive renovation and expansion project to better serve those entrusted in our care each and every day. In addition to aesthetic enhancements, we are expanding our facility to provide quality care to even more patients.
Because we are committed to providing our patients with the highest standard of care, we will convert all patient rooms to private rooms and expand our triage department, allowing us to care for 17 women at a time.
We will expand the Perinatal Special Care Unit, which provides specialized and relationship-based care for women who have been diagnosed with a high-risk pregnancies. Currently, we can accommodate up to 18 women, and with the expansion, twice as many women will benefit from this critical, specialized care during an important time of their lives and their babies’ lives.
We have also expanded the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), creating much-needed space and allowing us to care for 84 babies at a time. The renovations have taken into consideration the needs of the parents and families. From the new entrance where loved ones are welcomed them to the NICU by a staff member to the continuing care rooms, every element within the expanded unit has been designed with babies and their families in mind.
All of these enhancements — from private spaces and state-of-the-art facilities to nurturing environments for moms on bed rest and an expanded triage — are at the heart of our mission to provide quality health care at every stage of a woman’s life. Make a gift to support the expansion of Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women & Newborns and allow us to continue to deliver on this mission for the women of San Diego.
