Foundations of Sharp HealthCare

Transform the Health Care Experience Through Year-End Giving

As 2020 draws to a close, there are many ways for you and your family to give and help ensure that San Diego receives the highest levels of medical innovation and patient-centered care — today and for generations to come.

Ways to Give:

1. Gifts of cash (immediately tax-deductible) via credit card online, phone or mail. View Foundation mailing addresses and phone numbers.

2. Gifts of appreciated assets such as stock, which provide an income tax deduction and help avoid capital gains tax.

3. IRA Charitable Rollover gift: For donors age 70 and a half or older, gifts to Sharp made directly from a traditional IRA can be tax-free to the giver.

4. Charitable gift annuity

5. Sharp Donor-Advised Fund is like a charitable savings account, allowing donors to receive an immediate tax deduction and then distribute gifts to Sharp and other charities on their timetable. Learn more.

**SPECIAL THIS YEAR - New Tax Incentives for Charitable Giving

  • A universal charitable deduction for up to $300 is now available to all taxpayers, not just those who itemize.
  • Lifting of cap on annual contributions - Contributions to public charities are generally limited to 60% of a taxpayer’s adjusted gross income (AGI). The CARES Act lifts the cap on annual contributions for those who itemize, increasing it to 100% of AGI for 2020. Any excess contributions available can be carried over to the next five years.
